Each year, Weber’s Bulldog Basketball Camp presents an Illumination Award 🏆 at the end of the week to a special camper who “lights up” the camp, both on and off the court. It’s our largest and most prestigious award, and always goes to the person who made the brightest 💫 🌟 and most positive impact on the coaches and players throughout the week.
This year, the award has been renamed in honor of a very special camper-turned-coach, who was a part of our basketball program for over a decade.
Joseph T. Wezwick was Coach Bill Weber’s younger cousin by marriage, and he started coming to this camp when he was just 11 years old. Joseph played many sports, but basketball was, by far, his favorite. He didn’t live in Maryland — but in fact, almost 500 miles away in South Carolina. However, Joe said of all the camps he had ever been to (and there were many), our camp was his favorite. So, every summer his dad would drive him and a friend up to Maryland to attend for a week or more. As Joe got older, he started working at the camp, where he was able to coach his younger cousins, the same way he had been coached all those years before.
Joseph was only 25 years old when he passed away, suddenly, on June 8, 2021. This has been a huge loss, not just for his family and friends, but for everyone who was ever lucky enough to play basketball with, or coach alongside of, Joe here at camp. The Weber family recently spent spring break vacation with Joseph. Together, we did a lot of what we love most – shot hoops and watched the thrilling NCAA Final Four games on TV. So many of our family’s memories with Joseph are synonymous with joy, fun, and a shared love of basketball. That is why this month, we felt it was only fitting to rename our biggest and brightest 🏆 in his honor.
The first-ever Joseph T. Wezwick Illumination Award will be handed out a week from today, Friday, July 16th to the child who “lights up” camp — the same way Joseph did for so many wonderful summers. Joseph’s camp teams never won the Championship title in all the years he attended. However, we think he would be proud and honored to know that his name will now be on a Championship Friday trophy at the end of each and every week.
The Weber family misses him terribly, and it is our hope that every camper who attends next week, and every week after, has as much fun at our camp as Joe did each and every single year.

-The Weber’s Bulldog Basketball Family
Greetings! Can you believe we are approaching the 1-year mark since COVID-19 rocked our world? We hope every family reading this is healthy and staying strong as we push through what is *hopefully* the final stretch of this crazy era.
That being said, our executive coaching staff is doing everything they can to ensure we can safely bring back Weber’s Bulldog Basketball Camp for the summer of 2021!
We have currently locked in the following dates for summer sessions at Annapolis Area Christian School (Middle School Campus) for all-day camp sessions:
July 12-16
July 19-23
July 26-30
Each session will run 9:00am-3:00pm
As many of you know, Coach Weber is also an Assistant Principal at an area Catholic school that has been operating on a hybrid schedule since the Fall. His role there afforded him the opportunity to receive the first dose of the COVID19 vaccine just last week. In addition, our long-time athletic trainer, Michelle Anderson, who also works in a private school, has received both doses and will be fully protected for the remainder of the year. Several other members of our senior coaching staff also work as educators and are currently awaiting their opportunity to get priority vaccine appointments as soon as they become available.
That being said, we know it will take months until larger groups of the population can get vaccinated. Therefore, *as of now,* the plans for our Annapolis program will look a little different this year.
Each week of the Annapolis program will be capped at 75 campers TOTAL (half of the number we host each week in a normal year).
Waitlists will be established through the online registration system so families who do not get signed up in the first 75 spots can hold a place in line. You will be notified if more spots open up, OR, if county and building restrictions are relaxed and we can add more campers to the rosters.
Online registration is slated to open on February 17th and will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To keep teams balanced, we always group players by their ages. Please note that some age groups may fill up faster than others. Historically, we’ve always had more kids registered in the ACC age group (9-11yo) than any other league.
We are looking into the possibility of adding more outdoor hoops and outdoor tents for lunch breaks, so teams can maintain social distancing and still have the full camp experience they have come to know and love.
We will follow all CDC guidelines and recommendations as they pertain to basketball. In the event we aren’t able to play as many actual games (either due to health restrictions or lack of teams/players), then the program will be restructured to include more individual skills development. Our ultimate goal is to get the kids doing a physical activity that incorporates dribbling and shooting a basketball and do this in the safest manner possible!
You should expect that the Weber’s Basketball Camp precautions will look similar to what we’ve all come to expect in the last 11 months –from temperature taking and symptom monitoring to sanitizing. Parents will be asked to keep children home if they are exhibiting any symptoms that could be COVID-related.
